Why the two sides are named

Varna, Vashya, Tara and Gana are written one-directionally in the classical sources: a Manushya vara with a Deva vadhu takes the full six, while the same two the other way round take one. So the two charts are not A and B, and this page will not pretend the assignment is a labelling preference — it uses the roles the tables were written for, vara and vadhu, and every one of those four kutas prints what it would have scored the other way round. The other four are symmetric and cannot move. Swapping the roles above rescores the pair in front of you rather than explaining what would happen.

What this page will not do

A chart with no birth time can genuinely land on two different nakshatras, and with them a different yoni, gana, nadi and tara count. Tick that the time is unknown and the page measures the real spread for that date and tells you, above the score, whether the score is determinate.

What 36 points actually measures

Ashta Kuta reads exactly two facts from each chart: which nakshatra the Moon is in, and which rashi. It does not look at the seventh house or its lord, at Venus, at the dashas either person is running, or at anything else a practising astrologer would weigh before saying anything at all. It is a screen, it is four hundred years old, and it was never designed to be a verdict. A matcher that presents it as one is not being traditional; it is being lazy with somebody else's tradition.
