Three facts and no account. The time matters more than people expect — the ascendant moves a whole sign roughly every two hours, so an hour's error moves half the chart. If you do not know it, say so and this page will measure what is actually lost rather than pretending.

What the chart is showing

A kundli is the sky at one moment, from one place, folded into twelve. The twelve are the rashis — the sidereal signs, each thirty degrees of the zodiac — and the bhavas, the twelve houses counted from whichever rashi was rising on the eastern horizon at that moment. That rising sign is the lagna, and it is the only part of a chart that depends on the minute rather than the day.

The same chart is drawn two ways in India and both are on this page, because picking one silently tells half of the country its chart looks wrong. In the North Indian style the houses are fixed to the paper — house one is always the top diamond — and the signs rotate to meet them. In the South Indian style the signs are fixed in a ring, Pisces at the top left, and the house numbers rotate instead. Both regions print both numbers here for that reason: they look identical and they mean opposite things.

Sidereal, and which ayanamsa

Every degree on this page is sidereal, measured against the fixed stars rather than against the equinox, which is what separates Indian astrology from the Western kind and is worth about twenty-four degrees — most of a sign. The gap between the two is the ayanamsa, it grows by about fifty arcseconds a year, and its exact value is a genuine disagreement between schools.

This page uses Lahiri, the Indian government's standard, and offers no picker — the same ayanamsa every other page in this network computes with. An option that let one page disagree with another about where Saturn is would be a setting that makes the product incoherent, not a feature. What this page does not do

It does not tell you what any of it means. Not one sentence of prediction, not a score, not a "your Saturn is difficult" — reading a chart by rule is a different product, it is built, and it is linked below. What is here is the computation, stated completely enough that you can check it against any ephemeris you trust.

It also computes one Vimshottari timeline. Some almanacs offer four — Saura, Savana, Nakshatra and Lunar, which differ in how long a "year" is when the dasha is counted out. The lengths genuinely differ between sources, and this project files questions like that rather than picking an answer and printing it confidently. The same goes for divisional charts beyond the rashi: the arithmetic exists, the page does not offer it yet.
