What a hora actually is
A hora is a twelfth of the day or a twelfth of the night, not a sixtieth of a day-and-night. So on a Delhi day in June the day’s horas run about 68 minutes and the night’s about 52, and in December it is the other way round. They are only sixty minutes each on the equator, or anywhere at an equinox — which is the one fact that makes the difference between this and a clock hour visible.
The first hora of the day belongs to the day’s own lord — the Sun on Sunday, the Moon on Monday — and the sequence then steps through the Chaldean order: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon. Twenty-four steps later the next day begins on the lord two places along, which is exactly why the weekdays run in the order they do. The seven-day week is a by-product of this table, not an input to it.
